Lip Augmentation

What is lip augmentation?

Lip augmentation is any procedure to augment the volume or definition of the upper or lower lips.

Procedure:

Many different procedures are available for lip augmentation. Non-surgical procedures include injections of hyaluronic acid (Restylane, Perlane, or Juvederm) or PMMA (Artefill).

Surgical techniques include auto-fat grafting or dermal grafting (taking the deep part of a patient’s old scar and tunneling it into the lip). These procedures are done under local anesthesia.

Recovery:

Non-surgical injections are office procedures with no down time.

Surgical lip augmentation usually creates swelling, which can last seven to fourteen days.

Risks and Complications:

All procedures expose patients to risks and complications. In cosmetic procedures, all efforts are made to minimize these risks, but they cannot be completely eliminated. It is important to discuss these risks with your surgeon as part of your decision making process.
